Summary Description
This senior finance / accounting position manages on a day to day basis the general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, title work, and other related functions. This position is responsible for the management of the general ledger (balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flow), as well as the accounting, dealership, and merchandise software.
Responsibility also includes the month end close process, including the related analysis, procedures and documentation; accounting treatment and research; process improvement; and oversight of the budget and forecast process.
Daily work is performed independently, through the management of their team, and is subject to review only by the CFO and business senior leadership.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
1 Accounting processes, controls and systems
Establish and maintain the policies, procedures, standards and controls for the general accounting department and the business. Manage the month end close process and maintenance of all books of record and support, including assets, liabilities, ownership investments, as well as revenue and expense transactions.
Reconciliation of general ledger balances with supporting detail and / or to subleger.
Resolve accounting issues and discrepancies as they arise in the daily processing of transactions.
Set policies and procedures for the accounting department.
Recommend and implement changes and improvements to the financial and business systems, as well as processes and controls.
Prepare ad hoc analyses as directed by management.
2 Cash management and reporting
Preparation and management of cash reporting, reconciliation, and propose changes in the cash position of the business.
Represent the company with banks, insurance providers and other financial services firms and negotiate favorable rates and programs for the company.
Supervise the management of cash by accelerating receipts, timing disbursements to the companys best advantage, and utilizing all available credit facilities to take maximum advantage of all cash available to the company.
3 Management of External Audit and preparation of requested audit documents
Supervise the investigation of any anomalies noted in the financial records and the preparation of general journal entries to adjust accounts and reports to appropriate amounts.
Partner with the external certified public accountants to ensure that company books are consistent with GAAP. Review recommended policy changes and implement as appropriate.
Prepare requested audit documents as required by the auditors.
4 Financial Analysis and Reporting
Prepare and distribute reviewed financial reports, graphs, trend analyses and revised forecasts to management together with narrative comments and verbal discussion to assist in understanding important results and trends and improve financial performance.
Participate actively in establishing major economic objectives and policies for the company and supervise the preparation of periodic financial, statistical, and geographical reports that summarize the businesses financial position and operational results for each accounting period.
Co-ordinate and direct the research into financial variances and prepare reports and recommendations to management on findings.
Prepare ad hoc analyses as directed by management.
5 Other Duties
Manage the business forecast and budget process, including the supporting documentation and financial support.
Supervise compliance with taxing authority regulations, the filing of all required tax returns and reports, and the remittance of all tax payments on a timely basis.
Manage employee performance (evaluate and counsel).
Establish development plans for the team members.
Conduct employee performance reviews with all accounting department staff.
Perform process reviews of key areas of risk and opportunity in the business in order to protect the assets of the business, improve financial performance and identify business improvement opportunities.
Qualifications & Job Requirements
Four-year college degree, with a major in accounting is required.
Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant or Master of Business Administration degree is preferred.
Seven years or more of relevant experience, including at least 2 years as a controller / financial manager for a small or medium size company.
Accounting software system proficiency.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
Proficiency using a database management program such as Microsoft Access.
Experience in process improvement practices and disciplines.
